I’m Kelsey Kinney (previously Kelsey Marksteiner).
I am a foodie at heart, and it tears me apart to see people afraid of food, sick of food, or bored by food. We have so much amazing, delicious REAL food available to us, but we spend our days worried about carbs or afraid of fat. It’s time to embrace food as a healing, nourishing part of our lives and ENJOY it (and also realize that it’s just one piece of our lives).
MY FOOD PHILOSOPHY
I don’t follow any specific diet, but I consider myself a real-food foodie. I focus on whole food and avoid the processed crap (because real food tastes better anyway!). While I’ve been somewhat entrenched in the Paleo community for the last few years, I don’t really consider myself a “Paleo RD”.
While the Paleo approach has taught me a lot and gotten many good results for my clients in the past, I’ve also learned that not everyone needs to be so strict. In fact, being so strict has backfired on many of my clients. They start to fear food and stress themselves out about it — I hate that! Food is one part of your life, and it shouldn’t be the sole focus.
There is way more to life than food, and I want you to go out there and make the most of YOUR LIFE. I want you to be adventurous and experience life fully — I want you to be able to go out with friends without worry about what food you’ll eat; I want you to travel to other parts of the world and experience their culture; I want you to be ready for the stressors life will throw at you, knowing you’ve got this.

I want you to be able to get out there and enjoy the adventure that we call life. I don’t want you to feel like your health conditions are holding you back from exploring!
I use an ideology called “functional medical nutrition” to help me get to the bottom of your health concerns and fix them for good. Functional medicine involves seeking the root cause of health problems and solving them to get rid of symptoms, rather than slapping bandaids on the problem to cover up a bigger underlying issue.
This typically involves testing systems of the body like your HPA axis, to determine if you have “adrenal fatigue”, or your microbiome to uncover infections like SIBO or pathogens. Once we’ve determined what factors are playing into your symptoms, we can work on fixing them and get you back out there, ready to take on the world!
Where I live:
In New York City with my husband, dog, and cat, but I’m originally from a small town in Massachusetts.
My favorite food experience was:
Eating pollo al burro (“butter chicken”, literally a chicken breast doused in butter and herbs, and perfectly cooked) at Trattoria Sostanza in Florence, Italy — easily the best meal of my life.
Places I’ve visited:
Canada, Hungary, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Kenya, Switzerland, Germany, England, Japan, Iceland… and hopefully more as the years go on! I’m a total travel junkie.
My secret talent is:
I don’t know why, but I can always pick up on the fact that an actor isn’t American when they try to do an American accent (even if it’s really good!). Really wish I could find a use for this talent.
